A 1936-38 Jensen steam engine (flywheels from a later models are used in this video) runs a small generator that puts out the 3VDC needed to run a Gameboy color.

Now all he has to do is replace the chips with tubes, and I'll be happy!

I am not well-versed in electrical matters, but i wonder: wouldn't a wimshurst machine or similar crank-powered electrostatic generator work for powering a gameboy as well?

This raises another question: if so, how to keep the machine going at a steady rate so it provides consistent power? the answer that springs to my mind is something along the lines of the spring in an old watch, that could turn the generator at a steady rate, effectively making it a wind-up Gameboy rather than a steam gameboy.
